About Yoga
What is yoga?
Yoga, which combines both meditative and physically active elements, is an ancient Vedic philosophical practice, which originated in India over 2500 years ago. Yoga practice is relevant to contemporary practitioners today as a means to strengthen and balance the flow of energy within your physical body, increase your vitality, and experience greater mental clarity and peace of mind.
Yoga postures are practiced utilising both dynamic & static movements, linked with conscious breathing. Linking the mind with the body through the breath has a powerful effect on integrating the body and mind. Because yoga postures are focused on regulating the flow of circulation through the organs of the body, they are particularly effective for supporting organic functions of the body such as the digestive, respiratory, circulation, elimination and immune systems. Yoga’s physical and psychological tools and techniques balance and regulate the flow of energy throughout the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems of the body and mind, strengthening inner vitality and resilience in the face of stress.
Through regular practice, over time, the applied practices of yoga can maintain health, prevent illness, and extend longevity as they restore optimal well being through the integration of body, mind and breath.
Anyone of any age or physical condition can do yoga. You don’t have to be able to touch your toes, run a marathon or do plank pose to actively practice getting in touch with your body, learn to calm and focus your mind and enjoy the benefits.
